Low-Waste Packaging: How We Ship Sustainably

Because sustainability doesn’t stop at the clothes.

At Sage Leaf Vintage, we believe that sustainability should be woven through every part of our business, not just the garments we offer, but also the way we send them to you.

After all, what’s the point of saving beautiful vintage pieces from landfill if we’re just wrapping them in plastic waste?

That’s why we’ve made a conscious commitment to low-waste, plastic-free packaging, carefully chosen to be gentle on the planet, without compromising the excitement of unboxing or ripping open something special.

Why Packaging Matters

Packaging is one of the most overlooked contributors to environmental waste. In Australia alone, over 2.5 million tonnes of packaging waste is generated each year, much of it single-use plastic, bubble wrap, and non-recyclable film that ends up in landfill or the ocean.

Most clothing brands ship their items in poly mailers, often wrapped in more plastic or plastic-coated fillers. It’s cheap, fast, and convenient, but the environmental cost is huge.

We knew we had to do better.

What We Use and Why

Every Sage Leaf Vintage parcel is packed with intention, not excess. Here’s a breakdown of our low-impact packaging choices:

1. Compostable Mailers from HeapsGood

We ship your orders in certified home-compostable mailers sourced from HeapsGood Packaging, made from materials like corn starch and PLA (a biodegradable bioplastic).
These break down in your home compost in 3–6 months, no landfill, no microplastics.

🌱 Tip: Cut the mailer into smaller pieces and toss it into your compost bin or green waste collection.

 2. Minimalist Branding (on Purpose)

We’ve chosen minimal printed branding on our packaging to make everything more reusable, recyclable, or compostable.
Just clean, simple design with a low footprint.

3. Eco Stickers & Cards

Our thank-you cards and stickers are printed on FSC-certified, recycled paper.
They're recyclable or make great keepsakes for your pinboard or journal.

What We Don’t Use

❌ No plastic bubble wrap
❌ No tissue paper
❌ No plastic tape or glossy branding
❌ No unnecessary filler materials

Because “aesthetic” should never come at the cost of the Earth.

The Bigger Picture

Low-waste packaging might seem like a small detail, but small choices add up. When multiplied by hundreds or thousands of parcels, that’s a serious shift in how business impacts the planet.

For us, this isn’t about trends or greenwashing. It’s about creating a better model, one that respects the resources we use and the people we serve.

Your decision to shop vintage already reduces your footprint. Our job is to make sure everything that comes with it is just as thoughtful.

What You Can Do After Unboxing

Want to keep the low-waste cycle going? Here’s how to give our packaging a second life:

- Compost the mailer at home or through a local composting hub

- Reuse the mailer for future postage or storage — it’s durable and resealable

- Recycle or repurpose your thank-you card or eco sticker

- Share your unboxing on social media to inspire others to choose low-waste shopping

Every small action makes a difference!

Thanks for Choosing Thoughtful Fashion

We know you could shop anywhere. But you chose to support a small, sustainable business doing things differently, and we’re so grateful for that.

Our packaging might be low-waste, but our love for what we do is anything but small.

From garment to doorstep, every step matters.
Thank you for making your impact a little lighter, and a lot more meaningful.
